Allied Mineral Products Mourns the Passing of Jon K. Tabor

Jon K. Tabor, former Chairman & CEO of Allied Mineral Products, passed away July 17, 2022. He was 89.

In 1955, Jon began a 65-year career in refractories working for Norton Company before joining Allied in 1970. His prescient vision, gutsy determination and relentless hard work helped transform a two-man operation into the multi-national corporation Allied is today. Jon’s roles included Sales Manager, Vice President of Sales, President, CEO, Chairman, and most recently Chairman Emeritus.

Jon led the transformation of Allied into an employee owned (ESOP) company in 1986. Employee-ownership became a cornerstone of Allied’s success as well as employee financial security and engagement.

Jon was determined to move Allied into China (1998) while most others hesitated. Allied’s overseas manufacturing presence continued in South Africa (1998), The Netherlands (2005), India (2012), Brazil (2012), Chile (2015), and Russia (2017). In 2015, a building was named in his honor at Allied’s Headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.

Jon served on the Board of Trustees of Alfred University, was Chairman of The Refractories Institute (TRI), and Chairman of Allied’s Affiliates in China, South Africa, and The Netherlands. He was honored with the Tredennick Award (The Refractories Institute), The Alfred University Distinguished Service Award, The Alfred University Founders Society Honor, The Ohio Exporter of the Year (1985), and the Ceramic Industry Refractory Man of the Year Award (2006).

Jon will be remembered as a business visionary, a kind and generous man, and a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
