Allied Visits the Columbus Idea Foundry

This past Friday, a group of Allied employees participated in the annual “R&D Outing” at the Columbus Idea Foundry. The Idea Foundry is a large converted factory space filled with workshops, offices, classrooms and collaborative spaces. “Makers” of all skill levels and trades are invited to use the abundant resources and tools to hone their skills and cultivate their ideas. The organization also offers a multitude of classes and training on their equipment. They are always growing their offerings and encouraging the creative, entrepreneurial spirit.

On the tour, attendees explored the three levels of the space, which feature areas for woodworking, digital design, blacksmith, welding and much more. The second story is home to many “co-working” spaces ideal for meeting and brainstorming, as well as several small businesses that double as in-house resources for members. The third floor “Mezzanine” is a quiet place for working and taking in views of the city-scape.

Alex Bandar, the Idea Foundry CEO, provided an inspiring closing presentation that focused on the “maker culture” and its role in society and offered some insight on the future of technology and various trades.

The outing was an enjoyable change of pace that gave Allied employees a glimpse at some of the innovation that takes place here in Columbus. It was a great example of support for creative and inventive minds. See some more photos from the tour, below!
